Halfway through a two-week home quarantine last September, Tim Minchin opened a garage door in Perth to greet a new arrival: a brand new black Yamaha U1 piano. Before long, he was revving up an orbital sander to strip back the $12,000 instrument, paint it white, then hand-write lyrics on the surface in blue pen, all for a music video to his song Airport Piano. For the singer-songwriter and his family members – who had flown over to WA from Sydney to be with Minchin’s mum, following her cancer diagnosis – the unusual project was a welcome distraction from an otherwise trying time. The one-of-a-kind instrument will soon be auctioned at the Art of Music charity fundraiser on Saturday July 17 at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, with the proceeds going to music therapy providers Noro. Has there ever been a ginger jar look this cute? I think not! Now the big question is, will I store my ginger in it? Ha! Doubt it. I’ve been wanting a ginger jar for the longest time & a couple of weeks ago I finally got my hands on this one while Mark & I were down at the Gold Coast, from a stunning little shop called @thatprettymarket Equally as exciting as finally visiting the shop, was having all the ladies recognise me from Instagram. I mean how cool is that? And yes, I did look like a total, holiday mode, dag! Just perfect. 😂🤓🤔

On a scale of 1-10, how smoothly did the return to school in 2021 go? We’ve done, pretty well. Although this morning I did pull yesterday’s hair tie out of Mabel’s hair the ‘wrong way’ & a mini meltdown did occur & now it’s raining & they don’t have umbrellas in their school bags for this afternoon. Oh man, totally winning at the mum game over here! Wanna know how this got so beautiful? The piano, not the kid. Although I’ll take full credit for this incredible human, but I have to give ALL the applause to Mark for the piano! I made a highlight showing you how he transformed it from boring old brown to this pretty blue. Warning - he does make it look easy but he also says a monkey could do it! Happy Monday! 🐒🍌🎨
