33. Devon, Burgh Island HotelImagine a perfectly glamorous white art deco hotel set upon a picturesque small romantic tidal island surrounded by golden sands and turquoise sea. It's not only the stuff of dreams but the location for the next piano on our tour. The Burgh Island Hotel is a very special place indeed! As soon as we stepped though the door we were greeted warmly and made to feel so very welcome by the concierge Simon. He kindly invited me to play both the grand pianos here.I felt extremely privileged to play the beautifully sounding Streinbach grand piano in the elegant hotel ballroom, which was set up with tables for dinner. The room was exquisite with so many perfect art deco details. The sea views from the many windows were mesmerising as was the sun streaming in dancing on the fine China and glassware. What a stylish setting for our piece!We moved on to play the grand piano in the luxurious tiered bar which was complete with a domed glass ceiling and art deco fountain. After recording the piano pieces we had earned an expertly mixed cocktail before taking a stroll around the grounds and going down to their private beach and rock pool. It's hard to put into words how pretty it all is. No wonder Agatha Christie set and wrote two of her books here. You can almost see Poirot wandering around solving his mysteries. It was lovely to meet Vlad, the manager who came out especially to meet us before we left. He complemented me on my playing and kindly extended an open invite to return to play again.
