Artist Sofia Ramirez @artworkofsofirami has started painting her piano mural in the Art in Action Tent, north of Old Town Square on Mountain Avenue. Stop by and visit her through July 19. In her mural, Chrysanthemum Daydream, Sofia uses Chrysanthemums to signify life and rebirth. This mural is meant to be an escape from mundane daily life. It is an exploration into a surreal and peaceful dreamscape, an ethereal space where you can paint your own world full of color, hope, and endless possibilities. Bringing art and music to the streets 🎨🎶🎹⁠⁠ ⁠⁠ Pianos About Town is a collaborative project between the City of Fort Collins Art In Public Places Program, Bohemian Foundation, and the Downtown Development Authority. The project combines art and music for the enjoyment of the community. Pianos are painted from May through October in Old Town Square, where the public can interact with the artists as they work. Pianos are also painted in the winter months, in various public indoor locations. Pianos were rotated to over 9 locations in 2020. The number of locations was limited this year, due to COVID-19. The Art in Action component of the program continued with 9 artists painting piano murals in Oak Street Plaza, along with 4 artists painting inside at Foothills. Among this year’s creations are a rainforest-inspired mural by the Creative Kids’ Collective art group and a bee-themed mural by Colombian artist Zulay Rueda. Robin Romeyn is currently painting her Pianos About Town mural on Oak Street Plaza. The mural is titled Bevrijde Vogel or 𠇏reed Bird” in Dutch. The mural is being painted “in honor of all those who have broken free from what has bound them.” It is meant to provide a sense of encouragement to “those who long to break free and are trying to find the courage to do so.” #focoart #focomusic #paintedpianos

Zulay Rueda is currently painting her Pianos About Town Mural in Oak Street Plaza. Her design, The Queen Bee, shows honeybees alongside ethnic designs and typical makeup of the Wayuu, one of the Colombian indigenous cultures. Zulay, a Colombian artist currently living in Fort Collins, wants to share Wayuu culture outside the borders of her native Colombia. Zulay feels the bee reflects one of the most essential animals in nature and expresses strength, order, teamwork, and other qualities that are positive role models for us. The face of a Wayuu indigenous woman, with her characteristic makeup, relates the importance of respecting and caring for nature. The colored lines reference the bags made by the Wayuu that represent ancestral teachings through the patterns. #focoart #paintedpianoproject

Ren Burke’s Pianos About Town mural is coming to life on Oak Street Plaza downtown. Her mural design, Parliament, shows a gathering of playful-looking owls hanging out in a pine boughs A “Parliament” is the collective term for a group of owls. The program needs full-size upright pianos that are at least 48" tall and in good working order. Individuals who have pianos that they’d like to donate can email a photo of the piano to Liz Good, Visual Arts Coordinator for the City of Fort Collins at lgood@fcgov.com or call (970) 416-2646. Site visits are scheduled to determine if the piano is a good fit for the program. '7empest' – TOOL . The intro theme melody from Tool's last song off of their latest masterpiece album, 'Fear Inoculum'. . It was about 20 degrees out (and windy) when attempting to record this so my hands were pretty much frozen numb by the time I successfully got through the first minute and a half of the piece... So once it's a little bit warmer and with about 20 more years of practice I promise I'll record the remaining 14-minutes of this epic from actual start to finish. 😉🎹🎶🤘 . Until then, I hope you enjoy this odd timed polyrhythmic beauty, and if you haven't yet heard the original and you'd like to literally get your face melted off from ear to ear (this song is both heavy and aggressive!!!) I highly recommend listening to it on headphones and taking the journey, especially to hear how they return to the theme melody in the final 4-minutes of the piece = Sheer brilliance!! . Started my piano yesterday! My design is a Zen tangle landscape I call \

“How to Fold a Paper Crane.” Piano for the @pianos_about_town Art in Public Places program for the city of Fort Collins. This is my third piano I have painted for the city and it’s probably one of my favorites. I tried to use a simplified color palette as a nod to the colors of the Japanese flag and floral origami papers. The back of the piano shows all of the steps, but the directions also wrap around all of the other sides. I have good memories of doing origami as a kid and I loved teaching it to my students back when I was a teacher (PS. If you ever need a last minute sub plan, origami is the way to go!). I’ve never folded 1,000 paper cranes consecutively, but I have probably folded that many and more over the course of my life. The pianos are meant to mitigate graffiti and inspire impromptu piano playing. We're excited to welcome our newest piano artist, Burt Nunnelee! Burt's design, The Lonesome Troubadour, is a narrative on how music, emotions, and romance are all linked together; all while using dogs as a symbol of love, companionship, and loyalty. The piano player (the Troubadour) is singing out for all to hear. Not all enjoy the melody, but music will always find love, and love conquers all.\nBurt is a Colorado native and went to the Colorado institute of Art, in Denver. He moved to Fort Collins in 1979 and started Burt’s Shirts in 1983. He continues to run it along with his wife, Mary. Meet our new artist, Diana Dellos! This is Diana's first piano with the program and she said it's been a bucket list item for her for 15 years. 🎹\nDiana's design is called Bikes & Brews. Fort Collins is well known for their many breweries, bike shops, and bike rides. In 2017, Diana and her husband belonged to a local bike club and always finished their bike ride at a brewery or pub. She hopes when people see this painted piano, they have a sense of the comforting, inviting atmosphere that Fort Collins is all about. 🚴‍♂️🍻\nDiana is an acrylic and mixed media artist who specializes in bright colors, textures, and layers. She is influenced by patterns, colors, and nature.
