Queen Victoria Building

Full version of my latest attempt at Debussy's Reverie after reintroducing it into my repertoire. Once upon a time, I used to play this piece very well. Then later in adulthood, I relearned it, but didn't pay diligent attention to the score, and thus memorised it imperfectly for years and years of playing. Since resuming my studies, I began to closely look at it again, but struggling to replace all my old "substitutions" with the correct notes. In practice, with the music, it's much better. So what happens when I actually try to perform it? An improvement, but some old habits die hard. (Apologies for an obvious mistake in the beginning - that's brand new and better never happen again.) #tbt 🎄🎶🎹 Merry Christmas everyone! It will be a memorable one for all the wrong reasons, but let's make the most of it. This video is from Christmas in Sydney, Australia back in 2016. I often missed making music while travelling. Sometimes I'd find 'play me' pianos in shopping malls and train stations, but at first I was too shy and embarrassed to play them as I didn't feel I was good enough. At some point the urge to play just became too big. I overcame my hesitations and fears and I'm glad I did. It contributed to so many amazing memories, meeting people with personal stories about songs, pianists with amazing skills and at some point an entire tour bus full of Chinese tourists that all wanted a photo with me while sitting next to me one by one pretending to play the piano together. One of my favourite pianos was this one in the heart of the Queen Victoria Building in Sydney's city centre.
