About a year ago I was in Dijon, France playing a piano in the train station. The station wasn’t too busy, but there were people waiting, listening, and some just passing through. During my version of “Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word”, a woman in a store behind me began yelling at the cashier. I speak very little French so I couldn’t understand what the argument was about, but I immediately saw the irony of its timing and took the opportunity to play more intensely. Even though it was brief, distracting, and unclear what was going on, the moment was actually pretty great. Music can be somewhat of a sanctuary for most people, helping them feel a little safer and diffusing negativity. It also totally felt like I was in a music video so that was pretty cool too 🤙🕺🏻
