NYC in Numbers: In 3 weeks of time this is what happend: - I took 4050 photos of Sing for Hope pianos. - eat at least 15 slices of pizzas plus others food. - i had at least 3 kg of plain chocolates - about 80 videos from my camera and phone combined - played officially 52 pianos around NYC but many of them i visited more then one time so i performed more then 80 times more or less. - i met countless of beautiful people from around the globe , saw old friends and made many new. - on June 13th i spent a full day at the UN headquarter for the international albinism awareness day. - 365 days is what i believe it will take me to share what i actually did in these 3 weeks, each photo has a story right? :). - on June 15th We celebrated my 1000 public performance at the piano at Lincoln Center, on this occasion many friends joined me and we played 8 hours non-stop, simply magic. - During the 3 weeks every single night I closed the Piano at Lincoln Center, on this piano alone i took 659 photos , piano designed by artist Robert Padovano - One night we went to a Jazz club with my friend Marcie Castro and Patrick Clopon - after 15 years i saw one of my best friends , his like my brother , he was watching a show at lincoln center and i was just outside playing the piano, unbelievable, the happiest day of my life , thank you my brother Achille TarPaga - On my third week i Met someone from Japan at the piano at lincoln center , he was hypnotized by the magic moments that the piano was creating spontaneously so he came there every single evening and stayed with us so many hours, now his back to Japan and the first think he did he order a digital piano and he started playing already as he love so much what he witness in NY so he want learn how to play , I'm so happy for him , also thanks to google translator we managed to talk all week and also thanks to the language of music:) thank you Yoshihiro Shimizu - I want thank you Sing for Hope for bringing so much joy on the streets of NY, i want thank all my friends musicians and non who participated either by playing the pianos or by lisyening , love you all. #singforhope #artforall #pianistwithoutborders #robertpadovano

Morning Mistress ... and the rainbow-painted piano covered with rain expected ... How did I come to be a creative director? I was 90% blind at age 13. I SAW as if under this translucent paper covering — dark and light. I amused myself drawing with thick stubs of charcoal on huge sheets of paper. It was the one activity that gave me instant feedback. I knew I𠆝 be an artist. I had surgery, went to art school and began a career in New York, a few blocks from the piano’s location. Skills improved, clients were happy with my work, I worked as a graphic designer, illustrator and photographer— a vast world away from the inability to see. Those dark years were not wasted as I thought and listened to books being read to me. I decided to be brave and sing with my @singforhope piano. I chose Schubert’s song, “To Music,” because it’s one of the first songs I learned when I was studying to be an opera singer and my mom would often play the accompaniment for me when I was home. It’s hard to hear with the joyful cacophony of 50 pianos playing in the background, but I’m being brave and sharing this sweet moment with my momma, who gave me the gift of music. I cry every time I read these lyrics, art has the power to carry us to a better world and for that, I am eternally grateful. When I applied to be a @singforhope piano artist, I had NO idea how I would make my design a reality. (See my design proposal a few posts ago). I wanted the piano to look like a sketchbook, covered in the faces of strangers I have drawn over the last 7 years. I wanted the scale of the faces to be a bit bigger than the originals (I draw them in my 6x8” @cansonpaper_northamerica sketchbook) and I wanted the drawings on the piano to be totally faithful to the originals because so much of my linework is influenced by the bumps and jostling of drawing on a moving train. I primed and painted my piano and still had NO CLUE how I was gonna make it happen. Then the folks from @liquitexofficial stopped by and @jimmyleslieart showed me how to make a direct transfer of my images using clear acrylic medium. 🙏The acrylic medium adheres the ink and then you wash away the paper by wetting it and rubbing the paper pulp off until just the printed lines remain. This process was sooooooo satisfying and gave me the exact look I wanted. Sometimes you have to say “Yes, I can do it” even before you know how the hell you’re gonna “can do it.” 😂♥️ ✨Tomorrow, Monday June 3 we’ll have the official 2019 @singforhope Pianos unveiling at Fosun Plaza from 12-6 PM - and I hope to see you there! ⭐️drop a note in the comments to say hello and help make sure lots of people see this post so they can come check it out!

I want to praise these animals that we share our environment with, who grace us with mystery and beauty, and whose presence is so vital to the ecosystem. About the Artist: Born in Minnesota, I left my home state decades ago to head East, driven by a love of the arts and the desire to immerse myself in the cultural vibrancy of New York City. I currently pursue the practice of painting and drawing both in a private studio and through workshops, after studying at the Art Students League for many years. Though it can be considered a specific "self-portrait," the content is meant to be universal. Like a fingerprint, everyone can relate to having unique creases on our palms. All of us have curiously and casually studied these individual markings, an accumulating result of both genetic traits and life experience. Of course, it is through the attention, labor, movement, and heat of our hands that a piano is played. Although it's based on palm lines, I also wanted to convey a feeling of heat and fire, something I also associate with hands and all that they create. Even though the design is relatively abstract, there is a warmth, ease, and subtlety that the public can enter without conceptual pretension and enjoy for its beauty alone. Ultimately, the piece is about the hot intimacy of hands—as is the act of playing the piano. About the Artist: Born and raised in Reading, Pennsylvania, I have spent my last fourteen years in Brooklyn, New York, as a painter, muralist, designer, straphanger, and high fiver. I received a BFA from Syracuse University, MFA from Brooklyn College, and artist residencies from Prairie Center for the Arts (Peoria, IL) and Wassaic Art Project (Wassaic, NY). Although I have exhibited my paintings all over the northeast and beyond, after completing the Mural Arts Philadelphia apprenticeship in 2012 I shifted my professional focus to public art, art education, and social justice. I am currently employed as a Lead Teaching Artist for Groundswell Community Mural Project and as an adjunct instructor for the City University of New York. I'm also co-founder of Griot Apparel and a freelance graphic artist and printmaker. In my art creation, I draw on my experience of acclimation to new environments. The process of change is my inspiration to create. My work are composed of dyes and mixed media, and laden with abstract elements that are rooted in Chinese philosophy. In my process, I let my mediums take their own course, abandoning all control. I explore uncertainty and chance, the wisdom of allowing things to happen, which is a belief found in Taoist philosophy. I want to tell people to think positively about changes as well. Life and color dance on my canvas, and my brush strokes are not confined by the rigid discipline of traditions. It is spontaneous continuous movement, abandoning restrictions for serendipity. About the Artist: Dongze Huo was born and raised in Xi'an, China. He went on to study painting at Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts, where he earned his BFA in Painting in 2008. Later he earned his MFA in Painting from Academy of Art University in San Francisco in 2014. Huo has participated in numerous exhibitions around the United States. Huo was encouraged to experiment with new media and themes. Huo became an Associate Member at Phoenix Gallery in 2015, a prestigious artist cooperative turned community-oriented arts center, where he recently participated in a member group. During the same year, he has been awarded one of five Finalists and the Honorable Mention by RE:ARTISTE International Art Competition. New York - USA Sing for Hope - 2018 Piano Title: Save Me A Dream Artist: Rocelli de Guzman Freestyle Improvisation by: Pianist Without Borders Thank you Love you all About the Piano: My concept for the piano design is depicting scenes inspired from Paul William's song "Save Me a Dream.” It will be scenes of different New Yorkers—subway commuters who at the end of the day are relaxing, exchanging happy stories with friends, just glad to have finished a day at work, listening to music, staring out of the window enjoying the sunset, sleeping on a parent's shoulders, or just looking at other passengers. Different lines from the song, like "There are dreams holding promise and pure inspiration worth waiting for" and "Some find a purpose, a sense of direction in a wandering mind, if ideas are prizes, like children of angels, who knows what they will find" are part of the artwork. About the Artist: An artist at heart, my expression of the arts is in anything that moves the creativity in me, in poetry, a song, a sketch, painting or catching the perfect picture through camera, even in food through cooking and baking. My degree in fine arts has taught me to appreciate the uniqueness in everything around me. I get drawn into something not because of what an object or anything is known for but seeing something deeper in that object to appreciate it more. As I am enchanted by New York, which the world sees as the place where you can taste the big life, there's more to see and appreciate which is a big opportunity in art expression. It is not just the glamour and power that I see, but also the mixture of simplicity and complexity that each individual New Yorker brings in to the city that has contributed to the city's uniqueness.
