#singforhope #Alouette #busking #summer ... The Sing for Hope pianos have graced New York’s public spaces for several years now. But I never played one until today. The piano bench at the entrance to Inwood Hill Park was empty, so I sat down. I just riffed a bit, using tonic and subdominant chords with sevenths and ninths, sometimes adding tart little tritone substitutions, until I cadenced in C, then segued into the Bach Prelude in C Major, BWV 846, which is easy enough. But as I worked my way through those tasty harmonies, letting my left hand move down the keyboard bit by bit while the sparrows chorused around me and kids bought ice cream from the truck behind me and the roses made riotous red booms between me and the tennis courts, and as I played and listened to Bach’s music, I felt the tears come, because yes, music should be public, should be available for everyone to hear and to make, in the concert halls, in the parks, in the subways, made by concert artists, by buskers, and by the little girl in the picture who sat down after me and played “Alouette, gentille Alouette” pretty darn well. Girl, I hope you have a long and splendid life, full of music and love. ❤️.

. Playing this beautiful piano with Cardone family, Albert , Al , Ann & Tori :) . ONE LOVE. Piano: Havana Colors Artist: Alexis Mendoza Piano Location: Inwood Hill Park About the Piano: In the project Havana Colors, I rediscover the essence of color presence—however, what defines presence is no longer explainable. Color, lines after lines, distance, desire, the locus of the image, and volume do the explanation. All these characteristics come together simultaneously, equally, and in terms of each other, in some sense having nothing to do with the way color behaves or represents itself in the shared world of experience. About the Artist: Cuban-born Bronxite Alexis Mendoza is an interdisciplinary artist, independent curator, and author. Mr. Mendoza has exhibited his artwork in museums and galleries around the world in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Cuba, England, France, Germany, Mexico, Netherlands, Peru, Romania, Spain, Switzerland, and the United States. Alexis is the co-founder and co-creator of the Bronx Latin American Art Biennial, and founding member of BxArts Factory. Alexis Mendoza is also the author of several books, such as Latin America, The Culture and the New Men; Objective Reference of Painting: The work of Ismael Checo, 1986-2006; and Reflections: The Sensationalism of the Art from Cuba. Alexis Mendoza lives and works in the Bronx. #SFHpianos #artforall #globalpublicpianos #piano927 #pianistwithoutborders #streetperformance #kindness #composer #composition #freestyle #EricKateArcher #music #artist #art #piano #design #drawing #ny #alexismendoza.
