There was a beautiful park in the center of Main Street in New Iberia, Louisiana, but there was no foot traffic. We set up anyway, hopeful someone would listen. While I was playing Bach, Johnny came along and danced to the music. He sang me some John Legend a capella, then we performed Amazing Grace together. He told me he’s homeless, that he lost his football career when he got addicted to heroin, but he’s 40 years clean now. That he has a college degree in sociology. That everyone in town knows who he is.
