ℂ𝕠𝕞𝕞𝕦𝕟𝕚𝕥𝕪: You guys!!! It’s week 7 of the @betterhomesandgardens @oneroomchallenge and I am so excited about how this room is coming together! However, something I am more excited about is the community of friends I have found on this platform. Friends that see the hurt in our nation and are working to deconstruct themselves to figure out how we may be part of the problem and then working to fix it. I am beyond grateful to have these gorgeous friends with creative and open minds and hearts. And like this room, things in our nation tend to look ok from far away, but when you get closer, you will see the cracks in the systems (if you are open to it!) This room has some painting that needs to be touched up. A few nail holes that need to be patched and painted, but I will fix it and this room will be better for it. As will our country, if we do the hard work! 𝕍𝕚𝕤𝕚𝕠𝕟: Week 2. I tackled this piano as part of the @betterhomesandgardens @oneroomchallenge and I’m so glad I did! I chose to transform our front living space into a fun music room and I wanted the piano to be the crown jewel of the room. I chose to use chalk paint, in a bold color and I am in love with it! I receive more questions about painting this piano than any project I’ve ever tackled. So, I wanted to give some helpful tips! 1. I used chalk paint in the color 𠆄th of July’ by @american_paint_company that I purchased from @ivylaneshop This paint goes on beautifully and is safe to use indoors AND no need to sand, strip or prime! Yes please!!! 2. Chalk paint is not hard to use. It does take patience! It dries quickly and you want to paint in long, even strokes. The first coat is the most challenging. I say that for both the paint and the sealant. 3. You must clean and degrease your piece as much as possible before painting. I used Simple Green and it worked very well. The advice I was given is to clean it in a way that I would never clean wood. 4. Allow dry time in between coats (a few hrs for paint, 12 hrs for sealant) and dust in between each coat of paint and sealant so debris doesn’t become part of your piece. 5. This is not a quick job. It’s a bit tedious, but take your time and the payoff will be huge! In between the keys, I used the equivalent of a child’s paint brush to get around the keys and down into crevices. ℂ𝕣𝕖𝕒𝕥𝕖: There are times when life presents happy �idents” and that couldn’t be more true in the case of our music room that I am working on for the @oneroomchallenge I have made it a point to use what I have, or order from small businesses. I’m so happy with the design elements in this space and it’s not over yet!! I have never received so much love as I have when I painted this old Baldwin upright that had been abused by the previous owners. She needed a glow up and #covid_19 presented us with lots of time for me to do just that! The various projects within this space have taught me to trust my design instincts and to have some fun!!
