Yesterday I received a call from a mum, very upset because of the new lockdown measures about schools 😩. Her children are in primary school and they are literally loaded with homework. She spends the whole day trying to go through all with her children and this is causing lots of stress :( She wanted to start piano classes with us in January but she's now considering the situation too stressful and she's worried that adding another class to their busy schedule could become very complicated. Well, my answer was clear: the music class is a moment of fun, not an extra moment of stress. When children are very young we don't ask them to do homework but to enjoy what we teach them during the class and simply repeat our songs by watching support videos that we send them after every sessions. If they want, when they want, they can try the songs on their instruments. No books, no homework. Everything is done by ear with the support of body percussion, singing and movement. Well, personally my students are doing just great! They practice a lot because they know that I'm not pushing them, they compose their own music and love to play. 🎵 In the video, you can see Sam in one of the free resources for families, called Sing and Play. It's a two-lesson course that we send to all our studenta between 5 and 7, to support their learning in the first stages of the classes (even when we are face-to-face). 🌿You can find SING AND PLAY - PIANO OR UKULELE for free in our link in bio (at the end of the page) and give it a try of you're thinking to enroll your child to instrumental classes online. Have a look and see if you like our approach before booking your classes :) Enjoy! . . [A song to grow] It's never to early to learn music... At least in this family 🤣\n\nOur body is our instrument and we can find its harmony by moving, singing, breathing when we are mums-to-be. Easy to say, not to do.\n\nFor me, during the first 6 months of pregnancy, it has not been easy at all. I struggled to meditate, to find a moment to bond with myself and the baby, it was hard to feel space for that whilst I was going through all those emotions and feelings.\n\nI felt sick, tired, angry, in pain... Kind of complaining all the time 😂 i wanted this baby but accepting that I was pregnant has not been easy.\n\nNow I love it. I feel even better than before! I love the kicks, the moments of connection with my partner, dreaming with open eyes.\n\nWith these new feelings has arrived again the desire of making music and it came with the idea of exploring as well, with the extra goal to bond with my future baby (and possibly find ways to calm her down when she will be upset by singing songs that she will already recognise 😂).\n\nTonight in my stories you find an improv in Dorian with a song that you can learn for your children or students, accompanied with the kalimba. It's a simple melody, easy to identify and to remember. \n\nHope you like \.

Our Christmas today has been full of love and connection! We organised a musical Tombola (Bingo) with family and friends and it's been amazing to be there and play and sing for them ❤️ so lucky to have music in our lives as a way of connecting! My grandma Duilia Battiston, which was connected on WhatsApp, won the Tombola and chose this song as a price but we had lots of fun playing some other upbeat Xmas songs whilst our families where singing and dancing 😍 (and the little one in my belly is still kicking!) Next year we will be all together ❤️ So grateful to had the possibility of spending this amazing day today with all of you 🎄⭐️ @valeriapozzomusic @samuelwest_music @fiorellamattiuzzo @valentina_freschi . . . #musictreeuk #ukuleleclasses #gordonmusiclearningtheory #pianolondon #mumsinlondon #christmasgiftsideas #pianoclasses #ukteachersofinstagram #ukteachers #musicteacher #teacherslife #musiceducation #musiceducationmatters #education #educators #musiceducator #musiceducators #training #musictraining #highburyandislington #highburybarn #northlondonmums #musicclasesforchildren.

Thanks to you that are part of our online community, a place where this year we've met people from all over the world, found support and learned from each other. We treasured the moments of connection with you and we will work hard to continue sharing our ideas and experience here, in the next months 👍🎵 Last but not least, thanks to all our teachers❤️ We couldn't be happier to share our work with this amazing team of unique musician and wonderful people! They worked very hard for their jobs this year, investing to improve the way of delivering classes even when everything was bringing them away from their students. They found new methods to run their sessions, they adapted, changed and grew to follow the needs of their students and families to bring always a high quality music education to them. We are very grateful for the beautiful things happened in 2020: Music Tree's community has been truly important for us and it will continue to be ❤️ Have a wonderful day of relaxation and love 🎄 Tiziana and Sam.

Because we have fun composing our own songs!❤️ V. started her classes in the middle of September and she's worked on singing, coordination, piano and ukulele following the Gordon's Music Learning Theory approach. HOW DID WE COMPOSE THIS SONG? ~ First we talked about her favourite Xmas things and then we composed lyrics and melody together. ~ After that, we learnt the sequence of chords by singing and on piano and ukulele. ~ Eventually we worked on the coordination between voice and strumming, first with body percussion, then on ukulele. ~ The process took 3 classes and then she performed her piece at the recital! So proud of her! ⭐️ This is the video she's going to send to her granpas and friends for Xmas, you can tell by the big smile at the end 😍 Why should children choose just ONE instrument when they are so young? Isn't it better to work on their general musical skills first (through a multimodal approach) and continue then in the long journey of music following their passion? How did you study music when you were young? Are you still playing? 🌿Our goal is to create a strong emotional connection between our students and music whilst they are learning, to support the future practice... which is not going to be easy! In the video here you can watch Thomasina playing her own composition: she's 5 and she wrote lyrics, decided chords and melody and drew some nice images to accompanying her piece. She is simply amazing but trust me when I say that she was not the only one this morning! We had two wonderful recitals with our students! Two very nice groups of families on Zoom with a great enthusiasm that brightened up our morning! Most of our students composed their own song for this Xmas recital, since we encourage songwriting, improvisation and composition in our school. Some of other played after 2 months of classes with big smiles and happiness. Some other just observed their friends or performe pieces for exams. Granpas where there too, joining us from different countries ❤️ We love our music community and we will do our best to be able to meet all of them again in June for a face-to-face recital 😍 We couldn't be happier to consider an event like this part of our job. Music learning is like language learning. First, we listen. Then we think, speak or sing, then we read and finally we write. When we teach how to play an instrument to our little students, we follow this fundamental learning process (common for music and language), researched and developed by E. Gordon, M. Lowe @marilyn.w.lowe and other researchers. Here at Music Tree, for example, when we approach ukulele, guitar or piano we compose our songs to follow our students needs and integrate also body percussion to work on coordination. It's a long (but fun) process that involves reading or writing only when our students are understanding music with their minds and bodies. Does this make sense to you? How did you study music when you were young? Discover our classes starting again face-to-face next week at the links in bio. . . . The ability to understand music is called Audiation, and it is not the prerogative of a select few. Everyone can understand music since everyone has the musical aptitude. Musical attitude is that potential with which we are born, and which can be influenced by the musical environment around us in the first years of life. A musical education that addresses this process of understanding music and that aims to make the child independent is far more balanced and satisfying than the mere parrot repetition of the piano exercise, for example. Children are able to imitate from an early age: but what remains of music if it stops there and there is no understanding of it? When we met the Music Learning Theory, and therefore Audiation became the process by which we could truly learn music, our music world finally opened up. Music became ours and not something we could only repeat (having said that, imitation has a great value in music education but it cannot be the only process of acquiring skills). That's why we're dedicating so much time to a whole, brand new training project starting really soon in London. How did you learn music? By imitation or developing your Audiation, even if you have never heard it called that? . . . #musiccommunity #pianoclasses #musicschool #musictree #highburyandislington #highburybarn #community #musicforkids #ukulelelessons #northlondonmums #musicforthesoul #southlondonmums #musicforchildren #musicschools #northwestlondonmums #piano #pianolondon #londonmums #londonmumsnetwork #islingtonlife #iteachmusic #teacherchallenge #londonchildren #mumsinlondon #westlondonmums #musicclassesforkids #highburybarn #highburyandislington.

What do we need to facilitate the listening process? We need a suitable space that allows children to move freely, in response to music. Here some tips to create a musical moment in which the only stimulus that comes to your students is music. 1. Work in an empty room, without too many distractions. 2. Use a space with a floor that invites children to experience music with their whole bodies. If you can’t find a room like that, perhaps you can put a big rug or some soft mats on the floor? 3. Work in an isolated and silent room. If you are in an open space, with other teachers and children, ask them to work on activities as quietly as possible. In some nurseries, for example, the educators use that time to change other children’s nappies in another room. Use creative solutions based on the availability of the space! 4. No tables or chairs. It’s better if you tidy up all the toys and place them inside the cabinets or away from the hands of the little ones. Create a space to accommodate the children’s movement. Music is the only element that you will bring in that new special space. Discover this and more in our 5-day FREE course available very soon on our website! . . #musiccommunity #pianoclasses #musicschool #musictree #highburyandislington #highburybarn #community #musicforkids #ukulelelessons #northlondonmums #musicforthesoul #southlondonmums #musicforchildren #musicschools #northwestlondonmums #piano #pianolondon #londonmums #londonmumsnetwork #islingtonlife #iteachmusic #teacherchallenge #londonchildren #mumsinlondon #westlondonmums #musicclassesforkids #highburybarn #highburyandislington.

How difficult can it be to be a teacher without adequate preparation? At the beginning of our teaching career we definitely experienced this difficulty too, with all its challenges! You start teaching to a student who is a friend's child, you begin to teach them your instrument (you've studied it for years, how hard could it be?), you remove the dust off old books of technique (brrrr) and you immediately realize that you were wrong to accept that student and eventually spend hours worrying about what to do in your class! All of this belongs to a very far away past! In 2020 we have a lot of pedagogical tools to understand that we can do much better than this, we just need to open Google and find a training course for teachers... but which one? There are so many out there! What to choose? We trained in many different ways in our career as instrumental teachers but didactically we have encountered in these programs a lack of critical thinking in the search for learning sequences: we have found very rigid methods or suggestions to follow books written by someone else. Well, all of that couldn't definitely work for us. Does it work for you? So we kept searching until we discover a completely different approach, that puts music, our students' needs and ourselves as teachers at the centre of the lesson. We're sure you know we're talking about the Music Learning Theory of Gordon and soon we will be able to give you much more info about it and a fantastic free 5-day course that will help you discover it more, in collaboration with @gordonukinstitute @unamaestradimusica @teaching_mypassion . . . #musiccommunity #pianoclasses #musicschool #musictree #highburyandislington #highburybarn #community #musicforkids #ukulelelessons #northlondonmums #musicforthesoul #southlondonmums #musicforchildren #musicschools #northwestlondonmums #piano #pianolondon #londonmums #londonmumsnetwork #islingtonlife #iteachmusic #teacherchallenge #londonchildren #mumsinlondon #westlondonmums #musicclassesforkids #highburybarn #highburyandislington.

My child loves coming to classes but doesn't study as much between them. The story of each musician certainly is personal and different. Sam and I, who started Music Tree together 3 years ago, have for example two completely different backgrounds. My mum is a pianist and a music teacher; my dad plays lots of instruments, all for fun. Sam's father plays guitar and sax and still cultivates his passion with his jazz group; Sam's mum sings very well and is part of a choir. We both grew up in a supportive music environment but very different from each other, that led us to be both musicians but with completely different lifestyles. At the age of 11 I took my first exam at the Conservatory in Venice and throughout my adolescence I continued my studies of the classical piano in a very serious way. I hated it. I loved music and I couldn't think of doing anything else, but playing the piano didn't drive me crazy. At the time I couldn't see other paths though, so I continued until the degree, which I completed with full marks. From that moment on I play the piano only to accompany my students but over the years I have discovered my true passions: circular music and body music, music therapy and teaching. Don't ask me to touch a piano though, I only do it when and if I want it :) Sam, on the other hand, started piano lessons and dropped them, took trumpet lessons but didn't finish, learned to play the guitar on his own and at 15 began opera singing. In the voice he found his instrument but the truth is that any instrument has a crazy attraction for him. Now he is a songwriter and has a recording studio where he writes music for himself and others, while teaching children and adults how to fall in love with music. We both had moments where we spent hours studying and making music, as and when we wanted. If a child does not study between lessons but comes to class willingly and still learns new things, as a parent you are giving them a great gift: the passion for music is growing and one day, if they will understand that it is really important to them, they will begin study music for hours. Believing in them and giving them the opportunity is always the right choise..

How to know when your child really learns music 🔥 A learning sequence is, by definition, the correct succession of skills proposed to the child according to a gradual procedure. But how do you know when a learning sequence is correct? Certainly there are important feedbacks you can observe both as a teacher and parent regarding your child's learning. For example, when a sequence is tailor-made for your student, it fits them perfectly and is able to work on their intrinsic motivation at a deep level, without external difficulties. At the same time, it respects their learning times, strictly personal and incredibly unique. Within a learning sequence, the contents are proposed in a gradual order according to the processing times of each child. How do you recognize these learning times? In our approach, we have identified particular moments in the musical learning process to be able to do this: we rely on the musical dialogues we create with each child when we're teaching them. This allows us to understand in what moment of learning each of them is. How was your musical learning when you were a child? Did you have a teacher who was attentive and respectful of your learning times and who favoured your sequential learning or someone too focused on the music score and not very aware of who was in front of them? . . . #musiccommunity #pianoclasses #musicschool #musictree #highburyandislington #highburybarn #community #musicforkids #ukulelelessons #northlondonmums #musicforthesoul #southlondonmums #musicforchildren #musicschools #northwestlondonmums #piano #pianolondon #londonmums #londonmumsnetwork #islingtonlife #iteachmusic #teacherchallenge #londonchildren #mumsinlondon #westlondonmums #musicclassesforkids.

Today we got together for our training and sharing session. We talked about our new sessions, the one-to-one at student homes and the small group sessions for children over 5 years old starting an instrument. We shared the activity routine suitable for one-to-one with babies and toddlers and talked about the musical games for children over 3 with strategies to involve them with songs in different languages, movement exercises and exploration of instruments. Finally we discussed the techniques based on the Gordon's Music Learning Theory that we adopt in our sessions with children over 5 who want to learn an instrument, play with colored ribbons, xylophones, ukulele and piano (yes, because in our instrument lessons we continue to have fun and to work at 360 degrees on the development of the musicality of our students). In the end, we shared a game suitable for slightly larger groups, such as those that our teachers can find in nurseries or primary schools. In the video the fifth repetition of the game... in the first four we always made se mistake and we laughed a lot 😂 Laughing is part of learning isn't it? If we don't develop our musicality how can we develop our students' one? Looking a child in the eye and singing for them is one of the most exciting things there we can experience as teachers. The little ones have the ability to look inside us, they have a gaze that can penetrate and can leave us breathless. Their innate desire to grow, absorb and learn is a wonderful gift they give us when they listen and observe us during a music class. That's why having musical training as a performer is not always what we need when we teach. In this magical process of sharing it is more important to know how to play with the sounds of music than to know how to play a perfect note. In this game of improvisation and creation, which is the same that mom and dad begin when the little ones start babbling, is where the learning really develops. To be able to play with sounds and music as teachers we have to prepare ourselves a lot: our voice will come out strong and rich if we are familiar with our musicality, our musical attitude and our creativity 😍 We will then be free to move, sing and play with our little ones who are really good at this😊 . . . #musiccommunity #pianoclasses #musicschool #musictree #highburyandislington #highburybarn #community #musicforkids #ukulelelessons #northlondonmums #musicforthesoul #southlondonmums #musicforchildren #musicschools #northwestlondonmums #piano #pianolondon #londonmums #londonmumsnetwork #islingtonlife #iteachmusic #teacherchallenge #londonchildren #mumsinlondon #westlondonmums #musicclassesforkids.

Well done to all the new teachers that just concluded our 1st International Training Course - MUSIC LEARNING TREE!😍 At the link in bio all the info for the 2nd edition starting online at the end of October. Reposted from @musicclasseslondon 🌿 Here are the wonderful new Music Tree teachers! Among them are a trumpet player, a clarinet player, three pianists and two singers. Not enough? We also have two dancers, a musical theatre performer, two teachers specialised in working with children with special needs, a music psychologist, a body music professional and a photographer! In short, 2020-2021's team for early years music is ready to face all challenges 😂 It is not easy to meet such motivated and passionate teachers! Unfortunately many music teachers are still people who choose to do this job only to make it to the end of the month and this can sometimes cause unpleasant situations for students. In fact, teaching music, in addition to requiring years of personal experience and musical study, needs a profound knowledge of children's musical and general development process who comes only with passion, study and research. Furthermore, a teacher must be able to create a relationship with their students, be able to communicate clearly with them, and know their strengths and weaknesses in order to create a correct learning sequence. Not an easy one, eh? Yesterday we finished Music Learning Tree, the International training course according to Gordon's MLT @gordonukinstitute and on Thursday we will meet again to share activities, programs and ideas to start again with our children's classes. All with energy, smiles and having fun! Our next training course? Very soon! Very soon! In a week we're going to start again and, oh my, it's going to be amazing!\nWe've missed running our classes so much and we feel very ready to begin a new year. \n\nLots of months away from our little ones, no singing, playing, having fun, learn from them... Finally we will be back! \n\nHopefully all the measurements that we will be following will be enough to create a safe space but we also know that with little children it will be almost impossible to avoid the contact completely (which is what is happening in nurseries and schools anyway).\n\nOur children need to move, explore, socialise and we need to be there for them, supporting their development in the best way we can.\n\nIn our school we follow the Gordon's Music Learning Theory because is a child-led approach that allows us to observe the children and \.

One of the new ideas that we had this year for our families with children 0-5 is ONE-TO-ONE or SIBLING SESSIONS AT STUDENT's HOUSE 🎉 This is a new kind of service that we have introduced this September, also because our team of teachers has grown and we're working to improve our classes regularly. Some parents prefer not to participate to group sessions for the next few month, and we totally get it, so we have decided to open this new kind of classes to keep supporting their children musical development. With this new option you can book your day and time and one of our music teachers specialised in early years music will come to deliver a fun and interactive music session at your place. In this kind of sessions, delivered at your house, the teacher will not only interact with your child but also suggest to you, mum or dad, songs and activities that you can play at home with your child to support their musical and general development. Sessions usually last 30 minutes and can be customised for families with more than one child. It’s not necessary to own musical instruments, the teacher will provide them for the sessions, but we kindly suggest to create a space free from toys for the class where children, parents and the teacher can move, dance and sing without distractions. ❤️These sessions are ideal also for children with special needs. EXTRA RESOURCES FOR PARENTS the teacher will suggest songs and activities that can be done together in the session or after it, taken from our always available online resources for families, MUSIC AT HOME. We teach in #NorthLondon, #SouthEastLondon, #WestLondon, and #SouthWestLondon ... We're everywhere 😉 What do you think about this kind of classes? Is this the right one for you and you child? . . . #musiccommunity #pianoclasses #musicschool #musictree #highburyandislington #highburybarn #community #musicforkids #ukulelelessons #northlondonmums #musicforthesoul #southlondonmums #musicforchildren #musicschools #northwestlondonmums #piano #pianolondon #londonmums #londonmumsnetwork #islingtonlife #iteachmusic #teacherchallenge #londonchildren #mumsinlondon #westlondonmums #musicclassesforkidsOne of the new ideas.

Every age has its own need. Newborn babies need long time for answer, smile, observe. Toddlers need space to interact, come closer, move in the space, discover their strength and fears. 3 and 4 years old are brave, strong, sometimes shy (but just in the beginning 😅). They laugh, sing, jump, scream, try. They are an explosion of energy and they love to interact with their teachers and friends. 5 and 6 years old start understanding social rules much better and have fun in activities with little challenges that support their learning. They love to understand how the world works and they put lots of effort in what they like. That’s why our classes have specific age range and sometimes we need to ask parents with siblings to come in different classes (and we know it can sound a bit annoying 😅). We want to do our job in the best way we can, providing the highest quality of music classes to our costumers. When we open our doors to a child and thru family we welcome all their needs: cognitive, musical and emotional. Our groups are small so we can follow each child, support them in their learning and in their discovery of music. Yes, we are a bit more expensive. We know this. But what provide needs lots of training, studying and supervision. Try one of our sessions in September - register your interest at the link in bio, we'll be happy to show why our classes are so different! . . . #musiccommunity #pianoclasses #musicschool #musictree #highburyandislington #highburybarn #community #musicforkids #ukulelelessons #northlondonmums #musicforthesoul #musicforthebrain #musicforchildren #musicschools #northwestlondonmums #piano #pianolondon #highburybarn #highburyfields #islingtonlife #iteachmusic #teacherchallenge #londonchildren #mumsinlondon #guitarclasses #musicclassesforkids.

When we opened Music Tree in London 3 years ago, we realised that no other school was teaching music to children 0-5 according to the Gordon's Music Learning Theory! Kind of shocking for us coming from Italy, where this approach is very much appreciated and used hundreds of teachers. This music pedagogy is very developed in many other countries starting from the US, Brazil and Latino America; years ago it arrived in Italy, Spain, Portugal, Poland, Turkey, Iran and many more. The studies of Professor Gordon, founder of this theory, are very innovative for music education: connetted to psychology and research on children development, they explains us that the process of musical learning is very similar to the process to learn language. This approach also helps teachers from all over the world to create customised learning path for their students and families. Right before the lockdown 10 new teachers started their training with @teaching_mypassion in collaboration with @unamaestradimusica in Italy for @gordonukinstitute and are now ready to start their classes. Yeeeee! Having a group of teachers trained and specialised in the Music Learning Theory of Gordon makes us stronger and even more motivated to start again! We meet, sing, prepare our repertoire, study new activities to share with children and parents, and grow together as a team. lasses are starting on the 14th of September - register your interest at the link in bio 🎉 Meet Ilaria, one of our teachers, in the comments @ilaria_elaria and have a look at our highlights to discover why we love the Gordon’s MLT so much! . . #musiccommunity #pianoclasses #musicschool #musictree #highburyandislington #highburybarn #community #musicforkids #ukulelelessons #northlondonmums #musicforthesoul #musicforthebrain #musicforchildren #musicschools #northwestlondonmums #piano #pianolondon #highburybarn #highburyfields #islingtonlife #iteachmusic #teacherchallenge #londonchildren #mumsinlondon #guitarclasses #musicclassesforkids.

My child is 5, I would like them to learn an instrument 💌\n\nOne of the most common times to start music nowadays is when children reach the age of 5. \n\nThis happens because children at that age start school and therefore it is natural to think that they are also ready to start playing an instrument. \n\nThis is only partially true. The most important stage for their music leaning is actually during early years. Also, when they're 5, children learn much faster if through play and movement that in the common imagination do not go well with the idea of the instrument lesson. \n\nWe have been accustomed to the idea that to learn to play an instrument it is necessary to learn to read the notes from a book, sit down and repeat the exercise proposed by our teacher a hundred times. \n\nNothing further from the reality! \n\nJust as the child has the possibility to explore the reality that surrounds him and learn through it, he must have the possibility to explore music and a musical instruments in the same way, without restrictions.\n\nThat's why our instrument lessons for 5-7 year olds are designed in a very particular way. When children meet their teachers, they sing, dance, and learn songs by playing many different instruments. \n\nThis type of approach stems from the theories of E.E. Gordon but extends to the research done in the field by the teachers of @gordonukinstitute, @unamaestradimusica and @teaching_mypassion. \n\nChildren learn how to play songs learning their harmony, singing and playing original music in all the modes and meters that western music can offer 🎼\n\nThey also learn how to coordinate their movements with body percussion which prepare them for the coordination needed to play an instrument 🎻\n\n📌 The ultimate goal is to bring children closer to practice in a spontaneous, fun way, without impositions, supporting their passion and their natural curiosity.\n\nIf you wish to register for our special classes for 5-7 years old children click on the link in bio called \.

Hello little kangaroo, haven't seen you in a while huh? Don't worry, we're ready to start having fun with you again! Do you remember the lessons we ran together online during the lockdown? You made our little students laugh like crazy when you played the bells with your chin instead of your paws! What about your song? It made them dance and jump so much! The lockdown was easier to go through with you! Normally in our classes at Music Tree, we let you sleep peacefully with the other stuffed animals, that we wake up just on rarer occasions. Because you know well that during our lessons we experience music through singing and free movement, without the use of stuffed animals and toys that can distract our little students from the music. Children have lots of fun exploring music with their bodies and voices, in a completely safe and free space, and that's why you are not normally part of our classes. But this time, when we start the lessons again, we will always keep you by our side, to create a link between the online and live lessons. Also, your jumping song has become one of our classic and it's going to be part of our repertoire for a long time! See you very soon, classes are starting on the 14th of September again! Register your interest in our classes or discover our music approach at the link below and in the highlights. Also, you can find our list of videos and songs on our online school, always available for ꌒ a month. . . #musiccommunity #pianoclasses #musicschool #musictree #highburyandislington #highburybarn #community #musicforkids #ukulelelessons #northlondonmums #musicforthesoul #musicforthebrain #musicforchildren #musicschools #northwestlondonmums #piano #pianolondon #highburybarn #highburyfields #islingtonlife #iteachmusic #teacherchallenge #londonchildren #mumsinlondon #guitarclasses #musicclassesforkids.

Parents, grandparents and carers who accompany children to lessons often tell us: \.

The path in music can be long and hard. It certainly requires commitment and perseverance. Many of us have grown up as instrumentalists through standardised programs, learning from books with various musical pieces chosen a priori, perhaps driven only to take exams in order to add grades to their school career. Did you also have to go through this tremendous kind of approach or were you lucky enough to experience music as something creative and personal where you could learn and express yourself? Creating a personalised course of study, that follows the correct learning sequences, is what we like to do when we teach music, both when we worked with the little ones, and when we prepare our students for a more formal path. Being available to change our didactic also helps students to feel motivated, curious, happy to face the small frustrations that can arise during their musical studies. As soon as we notice that our students are no longer intrinsically motivated (meaning that their interest in studying arises spontaneously) we ask ourselves questions, we contact the families and change direction, sometimes we even suggest a change of instrument or teacher, if needed. Our goals is to transmit the passion for music as a discipline that facilitates expression, insight and personal growth. The results, the scholastic ones, for us must come only from this. Another experience with ribbons, today with 2-3 year olds, according to Gordon's Music Learning Theory approach. At this time of the lesson, I used the ribbons to encourage the repetition of the musical patterns, which we call "pieces of music" with the children. In this development phase, the 2-3 year olds start to consciously repeat the musical proposal I create specifically for their stage of musical development, and experience the sounds present in the environment with their body and voice : therefore they begin not only to imitate the adults but also to create and improvise the first rhythmic patterns. To make this happen, however, as teachers we provide a free environment, created especially for their expression, through tools such as ribbons, we facilitate the work of repetition and imitation. As you have seen in the video, however, if children do not want to participate in the activity or do not feel ready to imitate, we still welcome their way of being in the lesson. This is the beauty of Music Learning Theory: we play with music and sounds, each of us in the way we prefer, always remaining in a group united by the same passion for music and movement. . . One of the most difficult things of the management of our music school is to make our students' parents understand how important it is to support their children in their musical development without rushing, respecting their natural learning time. The typical email we receive is: "I have a 4-year-old child who seems interested in music. We would like to start with piano lessons." And this is our answer: "Hello there, Thanks so much for your interest. When children are 4 years old, we recommend group lessons that support their natural musical development. At that age, children are in great need to move, listen and explore music through their bodies. In this growth phase, between 0-5 years, the learning processes of music do not come by playing an instrument, but by discovering music in a multi-modal way, because the child is facing a psychomotor development. Furthermore, every child is different and at 4 years of age, it's unlikely they have a clear idea of what they want to play. Also, most of the time, after 10-15 minutes into the session, they want to get up from the piano stool and do something else. Our approach, at Music Tree, is based on Gordon's Music Learning Theory and follows these natural learning processes. We, therefore, recommend enrolling children of these ages in group lessons (maximum 7-8 children) were listening, movement and free exploration allow us to help them develop their musical skills, before asking them to sit in front of an instrument and play." This is exactly what happened to Tiziana @teaching_mypassion when she was as a child! "I grew up listening to my mother piano lessons' for hours (she's a music and piano teacher) while dancing around the house humming Mozart, and watching and exploring the Italian songwriters together with my father. When I was almost 7, I started playing the piano and at that point, it was really simple for me." So let's leave our children to explore and have fun with music, without asking them to be performative ✨.

It's never too early to introduce your child to music and we have already seen the benefits to the children in our 0-3 classes as they start their musical journey with us here at Music Tree. We offer smaller more personalised groups inspired by the Music Learning Theory of Gordon so that your child can receive a more immersive musical experience which you too can enjoy. ✨ We believe the musical bond between parent and child is massively important, and that's why we get our parents to participate in our sessions as well. . . . #musiccommunity #allaboutearlyyears #pianoclasses #musicschool #highburyparkmusic #highburyandislington #highburybarn #communitymusic #families #northlondonmums #islingtonmums #angelislington #familyday #concertsforfamilies #musicforchildren #northwestlondonmums #piano #pianolondon #highburybarn #highburyfields #islingtonlife #iteachmusic #ukuleleclasses #londonmums #londonchildren #mumsinlondon #ukuleleclasses #musicclassesforkids.

Music Tree is all about family, that is why many of our younger students who will not be performing on our Christmas recital will be coming down with their parents to experience the excitement and the atmosphere that comes with a performance. We never want to force a child to perform as we believe this is the tragedy of many people’s musical experiences. We try to work on our students’ motivation and passion so that when they are ready they will want to do it again and again. Today Music Tree - Studio 1 is all for Caterina @pianissimo_cat and her piano classes! Feedback from parents and adults about her sessions are just great: "The class was a lot of fun and I've aslo learnt difficult concepts" (Hannah, 40 yo) - "John enjoyed himself very much today during the piano class, we want to sign up for the term" (John's dad, 5yo). Well, of course! She's a great pianist able to teach beginners to Grade 8 students and she's constantly specialising in new teaching methods. We're really happy to have her on board! . . . . Many repetitions before using the metronome! We took this video 5 times so N. could observe her hands, listen to herself and identity the things she had to improve. Using video recordings during piano classes with children is a really powerful tool to help them becoming more autonomous in their practice at home! • Our teachers Caterina, Monica e Tiziana are teaching MON to FRI in Islington, South Kensington and other areas in London. • All the info link in bio. . . . #musiccommunity #ukulelesessions #musicschool #highburyparkmusic #highburyandislington #highburybarn #community #families #northlondonmums #islingtonmums #angelislington #familyday #concertsforfamilies #musicforchildren #northwestlondonmums #piano #pianolondon #highburybarn #highburyfields #islingtonlife #iteachmusic #teacherchallenge #londonmums #londonchildren #mumsinlondon #artclassesforchildren #musicclassesforkids.

Feeling the 3! #bodymusicandpiano First time for this student to play in 3 (he's attending piano since 6 months) so @tiziana_pozzo wanted him to remember how the 3 sounds like and "Happy birthday" is definitely the most famous song in 3 he can recall at home, while practising his new piano piece. Also, body percussion activates gross motor skills and coordination between voice and movement in a fun way! Yeeee 😂 . . . #londonpianolessons #londonlifestyle #londonmusic #pianoclasses #earlyyearsmusic #earlychildhood #newideas #children #parentsideas #family #families #privateclasses #tuition #rhythmgames #recordingstudio #newsongs #pianolessons #pianolondon #newsongs #students #musiceducation #piano #musicteachers #bodypercussion #northlondonmums #highburyandislington #learning #islingtonmums.

So, yesterday the church that had to host our recital asked us to cancel our event for double booking their venues. We were so upset! We immediately thought about our students that have been composing their own pieces and practicing for this special day and didn't want to disappoint them! So we transform out music studio in a small but really cozy concert hall and they loved it! . . . #musiccommunity #houseconcert #musicschool #highburyparkmusic #highburyandislington #highburybarn #community #families #northlondonmums #islingtonmums #angelislington #familyday #concertsforfamilies #musicforchildren #musicforbabies #piano #pianolondon #highburybarn #highburyfields #islingtonlife #iteachmusic #teacherchallenge #londonmums #londonchildren.

Today TaKeTiNa TaKi Ta with body music during a piano class. #bodymusicandpiano Another example of how to apply the body music to the piano teaching. @tiziana_pozzo worked on the rhythm for more than 20 minutes with this talented 7yo girl and she was still smiling 😊 . . . #londonpianolessons #londonlifestyle #londonmusic #pianoclasses #earlyyearsmusic #earlychildhood #newideas #children #parentsideas #family #families #privateclasses #tuition #rhythmgames #recordingstudio #newsongs #pianolessons #pianolondon #newsongs #students #musiceducation #piano #musicteachers #bodypercussion #northlondonmums #highburyandislington #learning #islingtonmums.

When a child struggles to understand the difference between crotchets and quavers go back to body percussion! It's so much fun and also creates a good way of interacting with the students. #bodymusicandpiano The boy here has just turned 6 but he's doing music with @tiziana_pozzo since he was 3. He loves little challenges so why not to try this difficult coordination?? . . . #londonpianolessons #londonlifestyle #londonmusic #pianoclasses #earlyyearsmusic #earlychildhood #newideas #children #parentsideas #family #families #privateclasses #tuition #bodypercussion #youngsongwriters #recordingstudio #newsongs #pianolessons #pianolondon #newsongs #students #musiceducation #piano #musicteachers #newvoices #islingtonmums #sharing #learning #islington #bodymusic.

We all learn in different ways. At the age of 4 children can already have had extremely different experiences, with music too. When I met this little girl (5 yo) for piano classes she didn't want to sing and her rhythmic skills where very little. So we just work on her listening through many different activities, some of them involving also the reading (she loved that, so why not?) Finding your way of teaching requires lots of experiments and trials. Some of your ideas would work, some other don't. So keep listening to your students if you want them to listen to you 🙋♀️ . . . #londonpianolessons #londonlifestyle #londonmusic #pianoclasses #earlyyearsmusic #earlychildhood #newideas #children #parentsideas #family #families #privateclasses #tuition #youngsongwriters #recordingstudio #newsongs #pianolessons #pianolondon #newsongs #students #musiceducation #piano #musicteachers #newvoices #islingtonmums #sharing #learning #islington . . . #musiclearningtheorygordon #gordonuk.
