Did you know that the world's oldest existing piano is right here in New York City at The Metropolitan Museum Of Art! If you haven't been, they have an amazing musical instrument section and this is one of the gems. Bartolomeo Cristofori invented the piano around 1700. It was originally called a Pianoforte because it could play both softly and loudly, as opposed to the harpsichord which only had one volume level. The name was later shortened to Piano. The oldest surviving piano which is showcased at The Met dates to around 1720. You can visit and see it yourself any time! #funkypianos #nycpianos #nycpianolessons #nycmusiclessons
